MACE Course Booklet Term III 2014 now available!

Friday, July 18, 2014
Welcome to MACE for Term 3, 2014.

MACE Graduation

MACE held its annual graduation ceremony in June to celebrate the achievements
of the 2013 academic year. A total of 436 students graduated in various vocational
fields including Community Services, Hospitality, Accounting and Outdoor
Education. Qualification levels ranged from Certificate I through to Diploma with
2013 having the highest number of Diploma students ever enrolled at MACE. It
was pleasing to see the large number of graduates attending the evening with
their families and friends.

MACE e-learning platform
The introduction of our new e-learning platform has been boosted with a recent
announcement of funding from the Department of Education and Early Childhood
Development towards the project. This additional funding will enable MACE to
keep the costs associated with enrolling in the online courses.

A new Era in Community Childcare
The new Cubby House centrally located at the Mansfield Family and Children’s
Centre 10 Davies Street Mansfield is set to open during Term 3. The children,
families and staff are excited about the move to the new premises which are
currently being furnished with new equipment, toys and learning materials. We
look forward to inviting the community to an Open Day in the near future.

I hope to see you at Mansfield’s Learn Local organisation – the Mansfield
Community Education Centre.

Increased interest in local training

The beginning to the 2014 year has witnessed a very healthy interest in training
by residents of Mansfield and district. There has been an increase in enrolments
in all areas of study with Community Services, Accounting and Business being
the most popular. MACE staff conducted a number of presentations to local
businesses during Term 1 to determine their training needs. Our involvement
with the Mansfield Do It Festival also gave us an opportunity to engage with
the community and discover their learning preferences. Here at MACE we are
pleased that you have chosen to train with us and welcome your feedback.

MACE e-learning platform

During Term 2 MACE will be launching its e-learning platform for both individuals
and businesses. Choose from over 400 video e-learning modules. Boasting a
comprehensive library spanning all the key areas of workplace training, MACE’s
engaging content includes dramatic impact video training resources that engage
and entertain, ensuring your training is memorable and effective. The program
will be launched in early May and further details will be released closer to the
date.

Family Learning Support Program – Subsidised Childcare

In 2014 MACE is pleased to be able to offer Mansfield parents/carers heavily
subsidised childcare at the Mansfield Cubby House for those who enrol in courses
at MACE. Whether it is an accredited or pre-accredited course, parents will be
eligible to receive a generous childcare subsidy for up to 15 hours per week while
they attend the course. The subsidy combined with your Childcare Benefit may
result in free childcare! Please contact us for
further details.

Record Training delivery in 2013

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Welcome to MACE for Term 1, 2014.

Record Training delivery in 2013

As MACE enters its 39th year of operation I am pleased to report that the training arm of the organisation continues to grow in its number of enrolments. 2013 saw 1524 individuals enrol with MACE ranging from pre-accredited training to Diploma level courses.

Training delivery has not only occurred in Mansfield as MACE expands its delivery throughout the state in partnership with other Learn Local organisations. MACE’s record of quality training and sound financial management has resulted in the Victorian government’s Higher Education and Skills Group granting MACE a three year contract from 2014. We are proud of this achievement as many Registered Training Organisations have decided to close, or have not been granted a contract or only received a 12 month contract.

MACE continues to provide a range of training options and in 2014 we will launch a major marketing initiative that will result in expanded training opportunities as well as extending our delivery to other regions in Victoria.

Further changes to the Vocational Education and Training system has meant MACE has had to increase fees for some courses in 2014 however we will continue to provide a competitive and quality training program.

MACE provides a range of payment options and can assist with fee waivers for those experiencing hardship. I encourage you to talk with us should you have concerns regarding fees that may influence your decision whether to enrol or not.

Family Learning Support Program – Subsidised Childcare

In 2014 MACE is pleased to be able to offer Mansfield parents/carers heavily subsidised childcare at the Mansfield Cubby House for those who enrol in courses at MACE. Whether it is an accredited or pre-accredited course, parents will be eligible to receive a generous childcare subsidy for up to 15 hours per week while they attend the course. The subsidy combined with your Childcare Benefit may result in free childcare! Please contact us for further details.

Community Childcare: Quality Care in a safe environment.

Mansfield Community Cubby House Childcare Centre currently has places available for children aged three months to five years.

Children are cared for and educated by a team of professional Early Childhood Practitioners implementing a curriculum designed from the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework focusing on play based learning with high expectations for every child.

We look forward to moving in to the new, centrally located state of the art facility at the Family and Children’s Centre in Term 3.

Uni4U

We were extremely proud to be the recipient of the 2013 Victorian Learn Local Award for Excellence in Creating Local Solutions for the Uni4U program. The award recognises MACE for its achievement of enrolling 140 students from across the Hume Region in this innovative program. Uni4U enables people to gain an Associate Degree in Business or in Health and Community Care from Swinburne University. Associate Degrees are practical and vocationally-based, covering a broad range of skills required for employment in the area of study. These courses are flexible to allow you to continue working while undertaking study.

I hope to see you in 2014 at Mansfield’s Learn Local organisation – the Mansfield Community Education Centre.

Course of the Term

TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

WHAT IS IT?

TAE40110 is Australia’s newest Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.  Also known as 'train the trainer', the TAE40110 replaces the older TAA40104 qualification and is the new standard in becoming a qualified trainer. It allows you to work within the entire vocational education and training (VET) sector.

WHAT ARE THE JOB OUTCOMES?

This qualification allows you to train and assess in your area of expertise, for example:  If you have worked in the hospitality field and have a qualification in this area, or you have experience and qualifications in agriculture, you may be able to train others locally in these areas.

Training and assessing is a rewarding career – you will be able to share your knowledge and experience with others, and help them to gain qualifications and employability skills.  Tired of working in the same field for a long period of time?  Maybe it’s time to start training others!

You could become a workplace trainer or a workplace assessor; Join a registered training organisation (RTO) or become a TAFE trainer or assessor; liaise as a training adviser; become a training needs analyst consultant or a vocational education teacher.

OTHER BENEFITS:

The TAE40110 is the current industry benchmark for anyone responsible for training, program design, development, delivery and assessment. This is suitable for a wide range of professionals who need to upgrade their skills in their current role or anyone interested in gaining employment within the training industry, including HR Professionals, Supervisors, Managers and Trainers.

MEET THE TRAINER:

Jo Anne Thornton, a specialist in Training and Assessment, has joined the MACE team.

Jo Anne is an experienced Training Coordinator and Trainer/Assessor having delivered approximately 10,000 hours of face to face training in the Vocational Education and Training sector. She has a commitment and passion for creating a meaningful learning experience in a positive and supporting environment. This includes the application of inclusive work practices and responsiveness to diversity which impacts on learners and their needs.  Jo Anne focuses on providing an interesting learning environment which ensures that all students are comfortable in their study.
